Daffodils on the Boulevard as community garden: the yimby gift that keeps on giving–each spring.

This blog is all about one thing: promoting a “Yes-in-my-backyard” attitude now.

Y-I-M-B-Y for short. Specifically,  we are saying:

Yes, pleeeease…let’s put the new economy in my backyard today!  Yes, let’s put clean energy on my grid!  Yes, let’s put good, green jobs in my town now! Yes, let’s grow fresh food in our neighborhoods this summer!

North Americans need a new approach to community economic development that embraces a proactive, YIMBY now! attitude. The biggest exports from our communities are our children and our dollars. That ain’t sustainable! What can we do about that? We can YimbyNow!

What does YIMBY spell?

  • Yes in my back yard
  • You immediately must brace yourself
  • Your inlaws may back you
  • Yarrow inhabits my back yard
  • Yanni is my brother’s yardman.

Ok, these may be silly, but why not have some fun?

What can you come up with?

    Love your new Yimby site!!

In honor of it, here’s my Yimby haiku (nearly)

    You’ll Inspire More Backyard Yurts!

    Cheers,

    Heather

Heather, love it, thanks, yurts are cool, especially the ones with central skylight.

In Fairfield County — yes, across the border — I’m talking up Solar Dryers (clotheslines) for year-round laundry. Hanging out laundry in sub-freezing temps is refreshing, and clothes do get dry. Some condominium associations or neighborhoods have policies against the use of clotheslines, so in CT we have proposed “The Right To Dry” state legislation. Wish us luck!

Patrice: Good luck in getting “Right to Dry” state legislation in Connecticut. I never would have guessed some condo or neighborhood associations would have banned outdoor clotheslines!?

Leo: Nice website! Informative and upbeat.

I have a haiku for you:

    If public parks can
be private, then let’s treat our
    “backyards” as public!

Best wishes for a greener New Year,
    Peter

Peter: I love your parks haiku!
